Google IO Extended Hackathon Winners for 2025

On behalf of GDG Central Florida, GDG Spacecoast and our fellow Florida chapters, we have the joy of announcing our winners for the Google Build with AI Hackathon 2025. We enjoyed seeing our diverse community of developers connect with each other, brainstorm ideas, and roll up their sleeves to build some cool projects over two days.
Through this experience, our community had the opportunity to gain deeper perspectives on AI and ML industry trends and work with the latest technology Google provides through its tools and apis. It was cool to see teams reaching for Gemini API for GenAI features.
It’s time to celebrate our hackathon winners.
Goverknower - First place winner
Govknower is a civic engagement application designed to bring transparency to the voting behavior of US senators and House representatives. It helps you explore how your elected officials actually vote, moving beyond campaign rhetoric to reveal their true legislative actions. Powered by Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and continuously indexing public and trusted data sources like official congressional records, Govknower provides accurate, up-to-date, and easily understandable insights into complex voting patterns. This empowers you to make informed decisions and hold your representatives accountable, fostering a more engaged and knowledgeable citizenry.
Well done team!
ResidenceGuard AI - Second place winner
ResidenceGuard AI is an AI-powered violation detection and reporting system designed for university Residence Life and Housing departments. The application streamlines the process of identifying, documenting, and reporting policy violations in student housing environments. Key Features: AI Object Detection: Uses advanced computer vision (CLIP model) to analyze room images and detect prohibited items, property damage (like holes in walls), and other violations. Policy-Aware Assessment: Cross-references detected objects with official housing policies (uploaded as PDF) to determine if a violation has occurred. Automated Reporting: Instantly generates professional PDF incident reports, including evidence, violation details, and relevant policy rules. Email Integration: Sends reports directly to Residence Life staff and can notify residents of violations via email. User-Friendly Interface: Built with Streamlit for a modern, intuitive web experience—no technical expertise required. Secure & Scalable: Credentials are managed securely, and the app is ready for deployment on cloud platforms. Typical Workflow: Upload a room image and the official housing policy PDF. AI analyzes the image for violations (e.g., alcohol, weapons, property damage). Detected violations are matched to policy rules and displayed with severity and recommended actions. Generate and send a report to Residence Life with one click.
Well done Sai Ram Potlapalli!
Pic2Plate - Third place winner

Helps users figure out what to make for themself based on what they currently have i their fridge or pantry reducing the stress of not knowing what to cook. It will leverage google cloud vision API for label detection and gemini API for processing the vision data and generating mean ideas. The end user could be anyone that has the time to cook for themself and has ingredients in their proximity.
