Google IO Extended Hackathon Winners for 2024
Post by Michael Rosario of InnovativeTeams.NET
On behalf of GDG Central Florida, GDG Spacecoast, and GDG Tampa, we have the joy of announcing our winners for the Google IOExtended Hackathon 2024. We enjoyed seeing our diverse community of developers connect with each other, brainstorm ideas, and roll up their sleeves to build some cool projects over one month. Across the board, I want to thank our organizers, Roya Kandalan(our amazing GDE on Google AI), and team members acting in generosity in their mentorship. Through this experience, our community had the opportunity to gain deeper perspectives on AI and ML industry trends and work with the latest technology Google provides through its tools and apis. It was cool to see teams reaching for Gemini API for conversational AI features. One team enjoyed exploring object detection using TensorFlow.
It’s time to celebrate our hackathon winners.
First place winner: Health Sync AI
Presented by Lorena Oyoko - Lorena Oyoko | LinkedIn
Health Sync AI is a groundbreaking application that leverages cutting-edge AI technology to revolutionize personal healthcare management. By combining a comprehensive health dashboard, an AI-powered chat feature, and advanced document analysis capabilities, the app offers users a holistic view of their health, personalized insights, and easy access to medical information.
Key features of Health Sync AI include:
- Intuitive dashboard: Visualizes health goals, results, and AI-generated insights.
- AI-powered chat: Provides instant, reliable answers to healthcare questions.
- Document analysis: Summarizes medical documents into easy-to-understand language.
- Goal tracking: Helps users set and achieve health objectives.
Built on powerful technologies like Google Gemini API, Firebase and Flutterflow, Health Sync AI demonstrates immense potential for future growth and development. The team has ambitious plans to integrate with fitness trackers, partner with clinical language models, and develop predictive health models. Health Sync AI is poised to become a leading platform for empowering individuals to take control of their health journeys.
Second place winner: The Changing Maze Game
Presented by
- Kayle Brown - https://www.linkedin.com/in/kayle-brown-36998b232
- Bruno Rodrigueze
The game features a Unity3D based maze that changes every 15 seconds, making each playthrough unique and challenging. The developers discuss the challenges they faced in creating the game, such as achieving the right textures, play testing, dynamic environment generation and sound design. The maze generation strategy leverages a clever implementation of the Gemini API to create the maze data. In the second phase, the players need to escape from a static maze while avoiding zombies. The mentors for this project observed a great deal of growth in the team and observed awesome refinements through play testing.
Android Recycling Guidance App
Presented by
- Wiscarlens Lucius - https://www.linkedin.com/in/wiscarlens
- Bharat Katyal - https://www.linkedin.com/in/bharatkatyal
Our third place winners created an innovative mobile app that transforms recycling into an engaging and informative experience. The team had the mission to gamify recycling and encourage sustainable behaviors. By utilizing AI-powered image recognition, users can easily identify recyclable items and receive detailed recycling instructions. The app employs Android native development and integrates cutting-edge technologies like TensorFlow object detection and Gemini API for image analysis and instruction generation. Their app has the potential to significantly impact recycling behaviors and contribute to a more sustainable future.
I want to thank all the teams that participated in our Google IO Extended Hackathon. We are inspired by the feeling of community, persistence, and growth from all participants. I feel like we just opened the door on many great possibilities and friendships for each team. We look forward to growing more together!
To our mentors who supported the event through Discord and regular tags ups, we appreciate your servant leadership very much. It’s a true joy to make a difference together in Orlando, Space coast, and Boston. Looking forward to more collaboration between our GDG’s and WTM’s across Florida. Finally, we thank Google for their investment in our communities through this event. There are a lot of technology companies who say that they want to see community and startup growth at a grassroots level. We appreciate Google’s long standing commitment for events that focus on community growth and empowerment.
